Does an increased consumption of water really aid in weight loss, there is many that say it does. There is advice that if you drink a glass of water before a meal it will make you feel fuller so you won’t feel like eating as much, I guess that could work.
This is another one of those subjects that has been promoted as a health benefit, with the official advice about the need to drink a certain amount of water every day to stay healthy. Water is good for detoxing our bodies and improves kidney function, water is good for our skin and of course water is good for weight loss. These are just some of the things that water is supposed to do for us, but if you research it there are conflicting stories and some say that there is no evidence that any of this is true.
It is a fact that our bodies need water or at least some kind of fluid to survive, we wouldn’t last for to long without it and it is also true that athletes or any person who works out on a regular basis is going to need more water than normal to replace the fluids lost through exercise. I take the same view with water as I do with foods or anything else, as long as we are sensible and our whole diet is balanced then we won’t go far wrong.
But what if you don’t like water, some people don’t. There are many flavoured waters available now, but we can always add a slice of lemon, lime, orange or any other fruit to our glass of water to give that little bit of added flavour. I do this with tea, a slice of lemon in black tea makes a refreshing drink.
Will water really help us lose weight, well I think the jury is still out on that one, but listen to your body it is normally good at telling us when we are thirsty and if you want to consume more water than average then do so, you never know it may help.
