Snacks Can Be Naughty

Those spaces between meals where we can’t resist a little snack, this is a time where we can be very naughty. Chocolate and candy can be the easy option to feast on between our meals and this is where we can fall down on the amount of calories we are consuming.

Some snacks can load our daily consumption with unwanted dead calories, but we can’t help ourselves they are just to yummy. So what are we to do ? As I have said before we don’t have to cut out treats all together, we all deserve a little of what we fancy, just lets not over do it with these high calorie snacks.

If you are snacking several times a day on high calorie snacks then replace all but one of these snacks with fruit. With fruit you are going to be getting quality nutrition for your body, less calories than most other snacks and it’s so very very tasty. I never used to eat fruit at all, mainly because apart from Banana’s the rest seemed to give me mouth ulcers (there’s only so many Banana’s you can eat) which are very painful. Eventually I persevered and now I not only love fruit but No more mouth ulcers.

There are so many fruits to choose from, some of my favorites are:

  • Cherries
  • Grapes
  • Apples
  • Blueberries
  • Plums
  • Strawberries
  • Banana’s (yes I still like them now they are not the only one I can eat)
  • Grapefruits

These are just a handful (if you have eight fingers) of fruits that are available for us to snack on. Once you get used to snacking on fruit the it becomes second nature, so give it a try.

Now for the all but one snack. Now we are going to keep one in place for that candy, chocolate or what ever yummy one is our favorite, we have to have a treat. I find it is best to practice a bit of delayed gratification here and what that means is that I will save my treat for the last snack of the day, why because I have then got something to look forward to, if you munch it as your first then you know that is it for the day and you will wish you hadn’t had it so early. Also by doing this you are less likely to break your system and have a second naughty treat in one day. This is what works for me anyway.

So what is fruit ? It is the best snack in the world, so indulge and enjoy.
