Poor Diet Effects

Fad Dieting

It is easy to get taken in by the next fad dieting craze, especially if we see that celebrities are seen to be taking part and looking fantastic. But what do these fad diets actually do to our bodies and our health, poor diet effects us more than we realize and I am not just talking about the money it takes from our pockets.

Listen to the Body

This is something that not many people take much time to do, listen to the body. Is it really your body or your mind which is making the decision to go on yet another diet. If you are trying diet after diet and losing a little weight and then putting it back on again when you stop the diet, then you have to ask yourself, was it your body that craved that diet or your mind.

The media that shows us the images of how the body should look, with all the thin models and celebrities they thrust at us, is not talking to our body, it is our mind that is being communicated with and constantly bombarded with these images and adverts for this diet and that diet.

What happens to us

So what happens to us when we go on one of these super weight loss diets. We are subjecting our bodies to a restriction on calories and what this does is slow down our metabolism which in turn slows down the rate at which we burn calories, our body adapts to the amount of calories we are providing it.

Now we all know that we only need so many calories for our bodies to function normally and if we are feeding ourselves twice what we need then we are going to become very overweight, unless we are burning those calories through a major exercise program.

What Else Happens

Dieting can cause our muscle tissue to break down and this means a further decrease in our metabolism, muscle eats fat and if we lose muscle tissue then we lose some of our bodies fat burning abilities.

Dieting requires us to stop eating our favorites foods and this means we crave them even more and the diet becomes even more unbearable, until we finally give in and eat those foods we have missed so much. This brings the diet to an abrupt end.

Then What Happens

The diet that starved us of our favorite foods and slowed down our metabolism and broke down some of our muscle tissue has now come to an end. This means a quick reversal of the weight we have lost, because we are suddenly eating more calories, but have a slower metabolism and less muscle to eat the fat, the result is the weight packs straight back on our body and more often than not more than there was before we started the diet.

The Dieting Cycle

This then makes us miserable and this can result in us eating even more food out of comfort, as a way to make us feel better, but that better feeling only lasts while we are eating, afterwards we feel guilty and fat.

This then will lead to us wanting to do something about our new weight gain and the cycle starts once again as we find a new fad diet that happens to be in fashion. The poor diet effects then start all over again and we lose some weight, get fed up with the new diet, stop and resume normal eating and put the weight back on again.

That is the result and the effect of the fad diets that we tend to buy into, it may be time to decide to tune your mind to your body and listen, rather than keep it tuned to the media adverts and celebrities and any other fad diet pusher that wants to connect to your mind.

Human Nature

There is a place for fad diets, this is without a doubt. You see if you tell one million people that they do not work, then it is probably only a small percentage of them that will listen and stop the fad cycle, that is human nature. The rest may decide to try a new one, so who am I to deprive those people of what they want. If fad is your bag, then carry on and enjoy the cycle.
