There is a huge market for low fat foods, are they really lower in anything or are they just a marketing ploy. There has been many stories of these foods being tested and not being lower in anything and in some cases being higher in some things.
So is the lower calorie an option we should always choose if we are calorie counting or just generally being aware of keeping our bodies trim. I don’t know if there is any truth in these products either being lower in anything and therefore being better for us or whether they are not lower in anything at all, to be honest I don’t really care.
I think unless you have some kind of medical condition that dictates what you should and shouldn’t be eating, then basically as long as it is balanced and healthy then you should eat exactly what you want to eat. As long as you only eat the right amount and are active then there is no reason to put on any extra weight.
I also think that eating low fat foods can create a false situation as regards our eating habits. Psychologically there is a threat that we can easily eat more of something that is low fat for the exact reason that it is low fat. We could easily fall in to the trap of over eating because we believe these foods are not going to give us the same calories as normal non low fat foods.
What do these products contain as an alternative to the normal ingredients to make them lower in calories or fat etc.. and how do we know that there is any real truth in these products. I could spend a year doing as much research as possible on this low fat food market and still I don’t believe that I would get any real proof or truth that these products are beneficial as an aid to keeping us from putting on weight.
The moral of this story is that if we don’t over eat in the first place and we do some form of exercise on a regular basis then there is no real reason for us to become over weight, which means there would be no market for the low fat alternative.
