How Do We Burn Fat

Following on from My Fat Life, I want to look at how the body actually burns fat. It is easy to put weight on, but it can be a big task to try and shift it again. There are so many fad diets around that do not really deal with weight loss in the right way. People go on these diets, lose a bit of weight and then when they come off of them, they put it back on again. It is a constant cycle, that will never deal with the real issue of getting rid of the fat in the body. To lose fat means controlling the amount of calories going in, to the amount of calories being used, it is getting the right balance. Fat will be produced by the body, if we take in excessive calories. If we are not using up enough of the calories we take in, then we will produce fat and become overweight.

Apart from the fact that the excess fat is really unwanted and pushes our confidence levels down as regarding our body image, this fat can also be bad for our health. We can develop high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, to name a few health issues caused by excess weight. The easiest way to become overweight is to eat far more calories that our body needs and to not do any form of exercise. So to change this we need to look at our food consumption and our daily activity.

So how will your body be able to burn off the excessive fat that it is carrying. There are two things you can do to start reversing the amount of fat your body is storing and they are by no means anything new or out of the ordinary, but they are the only real way to transform your body image long term and improve your health.

The first thing is to evaluate the amount of calories you are consuming on a daily basis, an average man should be consuming around 2000 calories and a average woman 1500 calories. If you are going over these amounts and not doing much physical activity, then you are going to be storing body fat, this means over time you will gain weight. So you will need to bring the calories you consume down, it is that simple.

The second thing is to evaluate the amount of physical activity that you are doing on a daily basis, we should all be doing at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. This means you need to bring your heart rate up for 30 minutes everyday. If you are not doing any exercise, then you are probably not using up the amount of calories you are consuming, which will result in weight gain over time.

This is how the body burns fat, you put in the food and exercise burns the energy from the food, the more exercise you do the more energy you will burn. Think of a car, you fill it up with fuel and the more you use it the more fuel it will burn, our body’s are very similar, the more exercise we do the more calories we will burn and the less fat that will be stored. We need food for our body’s to function and we burn off a certain amount of the calories in that food from just being alive, but the rest if not burned off will stay behind and become fat.

The bottom line is then, we have got to control the amount of food we eat and we have got to do some regular exercise to burn the excess calories. This is the only way we can really get rid of access fat and keep our body’s trim and lean. There are no excuses and there is no where to hide, only you will know how much you eat and if you are eating to much and only you will know if you are doing enough exercise. You cannot lie to yourself, so you have to take responsibility for any access weight you are carrying and make the commitment to lose it.
