Portion Control

This is something I notice a lot and something that I have never understood. Why do people have such large portion sizes when it comes to food. The amount that some people pile on their plate is crazy. I see some portions that people are tucking into and think to myself that would last me a couple of days.

The best time to spot  this is when food is free, like a buffet at a party or wedding. People go and help themselves and they really do help themselves, their plates resemble a small mountain of food. Then you notice them going back for more 15 minutes later. Why do people do this?

You see what happens is when you indulge in such large portions is that subconsciously you are going to eat the lot or give it your best shot as your mind will be thinking I won’t be full until I have cleared the plate. The plate gets cleared and most of the time the eater ends up feeling bloated and uncomfortable. They may even undo a couple of buttons.

Now does that not tell them something, if they have  to undo some buttons because they feel bloated then surely they must have eaten to much food. Why some people have to scoff down as much food as they can is so crazy. This is a great way to increase your waistline. Fat Large, fat is made from large portions and constant over eating.

Now I am not saying for one minute that you, the one reading this ever does such a thing, if you do I bet you have got a slight smile on your face right now, guilty as charged!

So if you are looking to lose weight and shed some of those pounds then this is a good place to check out, your meal times. Take a serious look at your portion size when you are dishing up a meal. Is it to big, do you really need that much food on your plate, if you can recognise that may be you don’t need quite that much, you could lose a potato or two or you don’t really need that much pie, then you can start to lose weight.

I am not saying you have to cut the meal in half, just gradually make your portion sizes over a couple of weeks a bit smaller. This way you will gradually get down to comfortable amount of food at one sitting, instead of a gut busting feast. Dish up your meal on a smaller plate, this is where that subconscious kicks in again, if the plate looks full you will think you have plenty of food on your plate and again your subconscious will be satisfied that you are full when you have finished the smaller amount of food.

Fat is a result of large portions, Thin is a result of small portions.

This does not mean starve yourself with tiny tiny portions, just be sensible and avoid those food mountains and control the urge at a free buffet.
