Calorie Burn

A simple fact of maintaining a healthy body weight is not to eat more calories than you are burning. So if we are overweight then it stands to reason that we need to cut down our present calorie intake as we are obviously consuming more than we are burning.

The other side of that particular page is to burn more calories through some sort of exercise. So which would you prefer to do, more activity to burn some more calories or cut down on calorie intake.

Well the right thing to do is both. Make sure that you are only consuming around the right amount of calories for an average adult, which is approximately 2000 calories per day for the Ladies and 2500 calories for the Gentlemen and then do a regular planned amount of exercise during a week to burn those calories.

So what exercises can you do and how long for, well I think you need to do a least 30 minutes of exercise in one day and at least five times per week. This doesn’t mean that you have got to be knocking yourself out everyday. I run twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays. I cycle twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays and I go for a long walk over the weekend. I also do a few extra exercises after finishing my running or cycling.

This has proved to be a big fat burner for me and out of interest running is one of the highest fat burning activities. In a 30 minute run you can burn in excess of 500 calories. A 30 minute walk is around 150 calories and rowing in excess of 300 calories per 30 minutes.

So I am doing around double those figures as I run and cycle for an hour at a time. I found it hard at first, but once I got used to it and made myself stick to it, I have found that it has become part of my weekly routine and I actually look forward to my running and cycling.

What is best for you in relation to what type of activity you want to do is up to you, but the secret to success is having a plan and sticking to it, without a plan you can follow, it is far to easy to lapse on exercise as well as the right amount and type of food. Before you know it you have not achieved any weight loss at all.

So set your plan and stick to it and then you will burn away the unwanted fat.
