Build Muscle Lose Fat

Lets look at building muscle to lose weight and don’t be put off by thinking about huge bulging muscles like Arnie. There is a good reason to build up your muscles for weight loss. But as you get to the end of this you will realise it is not all about weight loss.

Lets face it fat will not burn off fat, which is why we need to look at building muscle. This relates to my last post about our Metabolic Rate. We can speed up our Metabolic Rate by building muscle and one of the best ways to build muscle is by weight training. Using weight as a Resistance Training is going to build muscle, just 30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week will do the trick.

Don’t worry about becoming big and muscle bound it won’t happen unless that is what you are training to achieve and believe me that takes a lot of hard work. By lifting weights in a general routine that hits all the major muscle groups will build sufficient muscle to burn calories without getting big.

The fact is that muscle burns calories very efficiently and for every extra pound of muscle we can gain the more calories our body will burn, because muscle is metabolically active and even burns calories while we rest. One major thing to remember is to ditch the scales because by gaining muscle we will gain weight, this sounds kind of mad when we are trying to lose weight.

This is why we should concentrate on fat loss or Inch Loss rather than weight loss, because muscle weighs more than fat. So use the mirror as you guide and not the scales, with weight training and a form of aerobic exercise you are going to blast those calories off and your body will take on a whole new shape. You will look great, feel great and your new found muscle will be your secret weapon to burning those calories.
